The End of the Affair
Download: This film stars Ralph Fiennes as the angsty novelist Maurice Bendrix. He becomes obsessed with his former mistress, Sarah (Julianne Moore), who is now married to Henry Miles (Stephen Rea). Jason Isaacs is Father Smythe, who comes to speak with Maurice and tries to dissuade him.His role is not very compelling, cast as it is in the shadow of Maurice and Sarah. I saw this film when it was released theatrically in 1999, but I have had ilittle luck in watching it right through for a second viewing. Not that it is a bad film, but it does sometimes seem just a little too melodramatic. Ralph Fiennes and Julianne Moore give excellent performances, as does Stephen Rea. It is surprising that this film didn't catch more notice.
